As the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State draws near, two former Attorneys-General and Commissioners for Justice, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi and Mr. Obafemi Adewale (SAN), have left the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to team up with former governor Segun Oni in the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Others, who left the PDP, included former Chief of Staff to Fayose, Chief Dipo Anisulowo and former Commissioner for Works. Mr. Kayode Oso.

Commenting on the development yesterday, a political pressure group, Ekiti Build Back Better (EBBB), described the gale of defections hitting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP in Ekiti State as a confirmation of Oni’s popularity ahead of the governorship election.

The group said that while many people perceived to be close associates and former appointees of Governor Kayode Fayemi had joined Oni-led SDP, the PDP has become so emasculated and emptied to the point that it is nearing extinction.

The spokesman of the group, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said this in a statement he made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti yesterday.

Adelusi said Oni had become a movement in Ekiti politics that all politicians are struggling to associate with.

He said that the associates of Fayose, who are joining the SDP, were not doing so out of desperation for positions and relevance, but for the fact that the entire Ekiti people are already disillusioned with deception.

He said that the Ekiti people were more than determined to stop underhand plans to rig the election.
