PDP wins councillorship seat in Jigawa
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinched a councillorship seat in Chiyako ward, Birnin Kudu Local Council, Jigawa State.
Before last Saturday’s poll, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had dominated Birnin Kudu, which is former Governor Sule Lamido’s local council.
PDP’s Yanusa Abdul got 3,952 votes against APC’s Yusuf Umar, who polled 680, according to the returning officer, Balarabe Umar.
However, APC won almost all the chairmanship and councillor seats in the state.
Earlier, voters had held officials collating the results at Chiyaco hostage, to prevent any untoward situation that might lead to malpractice.
The 30 officials held hostage for include Ramla Isah, daughter to the incumbent local council vice chairman.
The result of the election was announced amid tight security at the collation centre of Chiyako Primary School Polling Unit.
