Peter Obi raises alarm over fresh encroachment on property

Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has sounded the alarm over a renewed act of trespass on a controversial Ikeja property tied to his family business, Next Foods Limited.

In a public statement released Saturday via his X-handle, Obi revealed that the company’s legal counsel, acting on behalf of the CEO—his younger brother, Mr. Ndibe Obi—has taken legal action following the unlawful demolition of the property. The demolition was carried out after a possession order was allegedly secured under false pretenses by an unidentified trespasser.

Adding a new dimension to the legal battle, Obi disclosed that the same individual has now resurfaced under the cover of night, erecting a fence on the disputed premises in what appears to be an effort to illegally divide the land.

“The secrecy and desperation surrounding this act speak volumes,” Obi said. “It reeks of impunity and appears to be a calculated move to further complicate the ongoing legal proceedings.”

Describing the development as a “blatant act of trespass and a direct assault on the rule of law,” Obi called on the judiciary to uphold justice swiftly and decisively.

“Fortunately, the matter is now before the court. We trust that justice will not only be done, but be seen to be done—swiftly, decisively, and in full accordance with the law,” he stated.

The incident is the latest in a series of property-related disputes drawing national attention, raising broader concerns about property rights, abuse of court processes, and the rule of law in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Legal observers say the unfolding case could set a significant precedent for how courts address alleged manipulation of possession orders and land grabs in urban centres.
