Petition alleges recruitment of close relatives in Kaduna BoA

Managing Director of BOA, Kabir Adamu Mohammed

The management of Bank of Agriculture (BoA) in Kaduna has been accused of massive employment scandal with newly-recruited workers in the bank alleged to be closed relations of top management officials of the company.

The recruitment was said to have been done after about 325 workers were relieved of the positions in the bank.

In a letter of petition addressed to the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh and made available to journalists in Kaduna at the weekend, against the bank’s chairman and other management members of staff, alleged that the chairman, managing director, executive director, legal adviser/company secretary of the bank have employed their closed relations, including their sons, daughters, brothers and sisters to fill various positions.

The petition, signed by Jummai Musa, Senior Legal Aid Officer, Legal Aid Council, Kaduna, said 325 members of staff of the bank were wrongfully sacked in 2011, adding that the matter was taken to the National Assembly public complaint committee where it was ruled in favour of the sacked workers.

Meanwhile, leaders of the affected workers, Christian Agada and Ochigbo Edwin, said management of the bank terminated the appointment of the 325 workers on the ground that they were redundant.

Agada, who stated that more workers were sacked, lamented that no fewer than three of the affected members of staff have died due to frustration.

However, when contacted, the Corporate Affairs Officer of the bank, Remi Olaoye, said it is the managing director who could only respond to the issues since the matter is with the National Assembly.

He, however, promised that an appropriate management member of staff would respond to the allegations today.
