Police arrest 120 suspected rapists, 88 armed robbers in Jigawa

Jigawa State Police Commissioner, CP AT. Abdullahi, has confirmed the arrest of 1,254 suspects who committed major crimes from 20/11/2023 to date.

Addressing a press conference at the Commads Headquarters in Dutse, CP Abdullahi announced that, when he assumed duty as the 23rd Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State on the 20th November 2023, his agenda was to ensure the safety and security of our citizens while upholding the values of justice, fairness, and accountability.

According to him, the achievements were recorded by applying intelligence-led policing, community policing, visibility policing, adherence to the ethics of the force, synergy with other security agencies, and respect for the rule of law.

The CP disclosed the number of arrested suspects as 88 Armed Robbery Suspects, 19 kidnap suspects, 120 suspected rapists, and 158 suspects for culpable homicide while the remaining 869 suspects were involved in other offences including vandalism, cattle rustling/animal theft, drug dealings, theft, motorcycle/vehicles theft and frauds.

While speaking on recoveries, CP Abdullahi said during the year in review, 17 firearms, including three AK-47s, one pistol, 10 Dane guns, and three locally fabricated rifles were recovered from the suspects.

Other recoveries are four pump action cartridges, 54 rounds of live ammunition, 82 motorcycles/vehicles, eight bicycles, 276 rustled animals, 408 tablets of Tramadol, and 622 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp among many other items.
