Strategies put in place by the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, to round up criminals in the 27 local councils in Imo State during the festive period yielded results as notorious suspected armed robbers, who specialised in using motorcycle to rob bank customers were at the weekend apprehended by the officers of the Special Banks Protection Unit in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

According to a statement at the weekend, signed and issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Andrew Enwerem, the suspects allegedly pursued the victims from the Fidelity Bank, Ikenegbu Layout, Owerri, and dispossessed them of N150,000.

The statement said the police men gave the suspects a hot chase, recovered the money and arrested them. The suspects were Ugochukwu Nnaji, 28, and Chibueze Mgboji, 21.

Lakanu said a thorough investigation has commenced and suspects would soon be charged to court,’ adding that the command has resolved to ensure adequate security during the festive periods and beyond.
