NSCDC arrests man for allegedly stealing motorcycle
The Police in Osun State yesterday, said five hoodlums have been arrested for causing unrest in Ilesa and robbing residents in Ile-Ife towns.
Some suspected rival cultists clashed last weekend in Ilesa over a foiled extortion by some land grabbers.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi had on Saturday, announced indefinite restriction of movement from 11:00p.m to 5:00a.m. over the incidents.
Spokesperson of the Command, SP Yemisi Opalola said on Monday that three hoodlums were arrested in Ilesa while two suspected robbers were nabbed in Ile-Ife.
She said: “Our men arrested three hoodlums in Ilesa. They have been terrorising the community. We are carrying out more raids to arrest other fleeing hoodlums.
“Also, we have arrested two suspected robbers troubling the Ile-Ife community. We believe that the incident of Ile-Ife doesn’t warrant the declaration of curfew by the community. Our men are available 24 hours every day to curb criminal activities in the community.”
MEANWHILE, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a man, Ojo Matthew for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Ede, Osun State.
The Commandant of NSCDC, Ocheja Emmanuel said the man, aged 32, was arrested after some residents of the community nabbed him and handed him over to the officers of civil defence.
Ocheja who spoke through NSCDC Media Officer in the state, Atanda Olabisi said the man hails from Ede South Council.
Ocheja said the suspect was caught in the act of stealing the motorcycle and the residents alerted the corps for his arrest.
The suspect, in an interview, denied stealing the motorcycle and claimed that he wanted to siphon fuel from the motorcycle into his own.
Matthew said: “I saw the motorcycle where it was parked and I decided to draw the fuel inside its tank to my own. I was about doing this when the owner saw me and started screaming thief. Some students who were around the environment started chasing me and I was caught.”
However, the commandant has authorised thorough investigation into the case, adding that the corps is committed to safeguarding life and property of citizens in the state.
