A suspected member of an armed robbery gang has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command.

Other members of the gang were said to have escaped following a gun exchange in Ipamesan area of Sango-Ota.

It was gathered that the arrest was sequel to a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ota divisional headquarters in the early hours of Saturday, May 15, that robbers were operating at Ipamesan area, and had already boggled a warehouse in the area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, said: “Based on the call, the DPO, CSP Godwin Idehai, mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene. On sighting the policemen, the robbers, who had snatched two vehicles from different locations, fled. They were chased by the policemen.

“But when they got to Joju area, they decided to engage the policemen in a gun exchange.

“But due to the superior firepower of the policemen, they abandoned the two robbed vehicles, a Lexus RS 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW, snatched from one Dosumu Kazeem, and a Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW, snatched from one Ibrahim Lateef, and took to their heels. The team pursued them and in the process, one of them later identified as Henry Obe was arrested.

“It was later discovered that the hoodlums have shot a guard attached to a warehouse belonging to Yinka Oduwale, to gain entrance to the warehouse and looted it. The guard was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.”

Oyeyemi said items such as one Dan gun, 41 laptops, 2DVD players, two phones, three tablets gadgets, one Lexus RS 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW and Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW were recovered at the scene.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.

Oyeyemi said the CP had also directed detectives to go after the remaining members of the gang, with the view to bringing them to justice within the shortest possible period.
