Police arrest two friends for armed robbery in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested 25-year-old Ogochukwu Stephen and his friend, Christian Emmanuel, in connection with armed robbery in Asaba, Delta State.

Confirming the robbery incident on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, said the suspects were arrested by the police on January 17, 2025, at about 0923hrs along Ibusa Road by GSM in Asaba, the state capital.

He stated that the police were conducting a stop-and-search operation on the road when they flagged down a tricycle with registration number 99VG, conveying the two suspects who were the only occupants of the vehicle.

According to the PPRO, Ogochukwu Stephen resides at No. 7 Ikukuoma Street, ULO, Asaba, while his friend, Christian Emmanuel, resides at Umuaehea Quarter, Ibusa.

Edafe explained that the police operatives subjected them to a search during which two rounds of 9mm live ammunition were initially recovered. However, upon further investigation, a search warrant was executed on their premises, where two fabricated Beretta pistols and one improvised gun were recovered.

He said the two suspects and their exhibits are in custody, awaiting investigation.

Bright Edafe also confirmed the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect, Eriga Enyiche, an alleged armed robber/kidnapper, with one G3 rifle and one pump-action gun in Agbarho town.

He said that on January 17, 2025, at about 1410hrs, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) attached to Agbarho Division mobilised his patrol teams to the residence of the suspect, where a search warrant was executed.

During the search, the police recovered one G3 rifle, one pump-action gun, and one cutlass concealed inside the ceiling of his one-room apartment. The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody for proper investigation, the PPRO explained.
