Police arrest Uzodimma’s closest aide, others over alleged fraud, public harassment

Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Mr Chinasa Nwaneri, the immediate past Special Adviser (Special Duties) to Governor Hope Uzodimma over fraud allegations.

Others who were arrested alongside are the President of the Imo State Market Association Traders (ISAMATA), Emmanuel Ezeanochie, and three others.

The ‘others’ were however, not mentioned.

At press time, the suspects were still in the police net.

Spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, in a statement, said they were arrested in connection with alleged fraudulent practices.

According to him, the suspects were arrested for malicious damage, fraudulent activities, obtaining money under false pretence, and Illegal use of government power/authority to harass, intimidate and frustrate the citizens of Imo State.

Okoye said investigation was ongoing, and that further development would be communicated in due course.

Nwaneri had been Uzodimma’s personal aide for several years, even before he became governor of the state.

He was among the first set of appointees handling special duties, when the governor took over power in January 15, 2020.
