Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said other security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force, are permitted to check vehicle particulars.

Rivers State Sector Commander, Salisu Galadunci, in an interview, clarified that his agency is not the only body charged with the responsibility.

He observed that the Police Act made provisions for the force to inspect cars, adding that in the event of theft, the police are empowered to search, and do that by inspecting papers.

Galadunci spoke amid complaints by Nigerians that it was only FRSC that could demand vehicle particulars.

He said: “If you go back to the Police Act, the police are authorised to carry out so many things. If your vehicle is reported stolen, it is not Road Safety that will find it. We will help by clicking our database. The next thing people do is to report to the police. They are everywhere during stop and search.”

“So anything that you see those agencies doing is captured by the law.

“We can not do it alone. It is a shared responsibility, and people should know that.”
