Police commission promotes Lakanu, 24 other senior officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of Taiwo Lakanu to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and 24 other senior officers to the next rank.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of Taiwo Lakanu to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and 24 other senior officers to the next rank.

Lakanu, a recipient of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) award for gallantry when he was the Head of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Lagos, where he contributed to reducing the spat of criminal activities in the state, was before this elevation the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Imo State.

A statement confirming the promotion issued by the PSC Assistant Director, Press, Ikechukwu Ani, gave the breakdown of the other promoted officers to include three Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioners (DCP), one Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner, two Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents (CSP), four Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents (SP), six Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents (DSP) and eight Inspectors of Police to the rank of Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP).

The statement also said eight senior officers, an ACP, one SP, three DSPs and ASPs who had appealed their promotion, were considered and their appeals upheld for them to retain their appropriate ranks following complaints of irregularities in the process.
