Police confirm attack on team in Abia, appeal for information
The Abia Police Command has confirmed an attack on its stop-and-search team in Umuahia on Wednesday.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna, two police officers were wounded and riffles carted away.
The PPRO said: “The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office was not attacked, but those on stop-and-search, in front of the Umuagu Office of the State CID, at Uzuakoli road, Umuahia.”
The Command, therefore, pleaded for information, saying that investigations into the incident had commenced.
Information has it that about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, some fleeing gunmen attacked the police team.
An unconfirmed source said: “The gunmen had probably robbed somewhere and were escaping when they encountered the police team.”
