The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed as false, a viral social media report claiming that some young people in the Nyanya area of Abuja had sold their kidneys for money.

The report, which has circulated widely on social media, also alleged that an agent in neighbouring Mararaba was buying human kidneys.

However, the FCT Police Command said it had neither received nor confirmed any report linking residents of Nyanya to kidney sales or alleged human organ trafficking.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said no statement or communication confirming the allegations had emanated from the command.

The command urged residents to disregard the publication and refrain from sharing unverified information capable of creating fear and panic in the community.

The police, however, said it remained open to credible information that could assist in investigating any genuine case of human organ trafficking or other security threats within the FCT.
