What could have become a bloodbath in Enugu State yesterday was averted as the Police repealed an attempted attack on Aguobu Owa Divisional Police Station in Ezeagu local council of the state by some unknown gunmen.

It was gathered that the attempted attack was launched about 9:00am when some of the police officers were yet to report for duties.

It was further learnt that police operatives already on duty resisted the invaders vehemently.

According to a witness, the gunmen who drove in a black Toyota Corolla car, tried to attack the station.

However, during the exchange of gunfire, a police officer reportedly sustained a bullet wound and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

A police source stated that many of the attackers escaped with serious gunshot wounds, adding that their planned attack on the station was completely foiled.

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident.

He added: “Full-scale investigation has commenced to fish out the yet-to-be identified hoodlums, who operating in a black-coloured Corolla car, attempted to attack Ezeagu Police Division in the morning hours of today, 08/10/2021, but were resisted by Police operatives on duty.”

The foiled attack could have been the second on a police station in Ezeagu local council in the last three months.

The Iwollo police station had earlier been attacked resulting in the killing of two police officers and burning of the entire station.
