Police nab 32 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers in Abuja

The Nigeria Police high command, yesterday, paraded 32 people for their alleged involvement in kidnappings, homicide, armed robbery, among other crimes.
 
Parading the suspects at the Special Tactical Squad STS office Guzape Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, said the suspects were arrested by officers and men of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)’s Special Tactical Squad unit of the force at their hideouts.

 
The suspects include, Kasimo Mohammed 30, Irana Abubakar 33, Mustapha Bagudu 30, Bala Abubakar 55, Ibrahim Abubakar 36 and Nasiru Musa 30.
 
Police authorities said the suspects worked in a coordinated manner to steal cars from different parts of Nigeria and smuggle them through the Niger border, where the cars are sold to Alhaji Garba.

Mba said the stolen vehicles are mostly Toyota vehicles, stressing that Alhaji Garba was not only a receiver of stolen cars but also a dealer of arms ammunition.

 
He also hinted that the gang has stolen a total of 17 cars with a preference for Toyota Corolla and other brands of the vehicle due to their market values.
  
He added that a total of 15 stolen cars have been recovered from the crime suspects, adding that persons, who lost their cars should come with proof of ownership to collect them.

Another criminal suspect arrested and paraded by the STS operatives was named Dayabu Mohammed aged 27 from Soba Local Council of Kaduna State.

 
The Police spokesperson said he was arrested during their crackdown on bandits at Saminaka forest in the northwest.
 
According to Mba, the suspect’s major task is to ferry arms and ammunition and other weapons from the sources that supply weapons to the bandits and bad elements
 
Exhibit items said to have been recovered from the suspect include a Gulf Car used to convey ammunition, 250 live ammunition and five AK 47 rifles.
  
The middle-aged man, Mba said,  confessed to having carried out five different operations, adding that he had ferried a total of 400 pieces of ammunition to the bandits for their illegal activities.
 
Other criminals arrested and paraded were Saleh Ibrahim, 35, Abdullahi Suleiman 40 and Aliyu Suleiman 37, who operated along Abuja- Kaduna road as kidnap kingpins that abducted and sexually harrassed one Hajara Mohammed and another woman.
 
The Police authorities also said the suspects rustled 24 cows belonging to one Bature, who was their neighbour before they were arrested.

Also paraded were a set of five armed robbers,  namely Mohammed Lawali (AKA Lawyer), Suleiman Ibrahim, Monsuru Abubakar, Bashir Audu and Abubakar Hamisu.
  
The criminal gang members were allegedly involved in the robbery operations in Niger State, which is their base and in one of their attacks, one of them killed 18 innocent persons.
 
Some exhibits said to have been recovered from the suspects include 19 AK 47 rifles, two locally made pistols, one General Purpose Machine Gun GPMG, 17 Toyota Vehicles, 453 rounds of ammunition and different sizes of knives.

One of the suspects, Bashir Audu, is a key suspect in the supply of hard drugs used for the group’s operation and other criminal acts.
 
The Police Spokesman said all the suspects have been indicted for the offences they were arrested for and would all be charged to court of law after investigation.
