Delta State Police Command, yesterday, paraded 10 suspected kidnappers for terrorising the Sapele-Warri road in Okpe Local Council of the state. Spokesperson for the Command, Bright Edafe, paraded the suspects at the command headquarters in Asaba.  He said operatives of Commander Decoy Squad, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Julius Robinson, arrested the suspects, all males.

According to him, the operatives relocated to Sapele, on a covert operation, while acting on credible intelligence gathered within Sapele and surrounding communities.

Edafe explained that all the suspects, including a 29-year-old Nyero Sunday, ‘m’, of Okwitolo community, were arrested through what he called “technical intelligence investigation”, and they have confessed to their involvements in numerous kidnapping/armed robbery operations.  He said their arrests followed series of reported cases of armed robbery/kidnapping along Sapele-Warri road and its environs, which have created fear among road users.

He said: “ The new commissioner of Police, Wale Abass on assumption of duty, identified kidnapping as a major security challenge in the state, and therefore detailed an intelligence unit of his Decoy Squad to embark on a discreet and an intelligence operation to stop the ugly trend.

“This development led to the arrest of one Umar Bello, ‘m’, 33, from Sokoto State, who resides in Warri, but usually trades in stolen phones and other valuables robbed from their victims.

“The syndicate was found with Toyota Corolla with Registration Number WWR 353 LS, a locally made cut-to-size single barrel pistol, and 11 rounds of live cartridges.”

Also, Edafe said the Command’s crack squad had on May 16, 2023, raided a criminal black spot located around Osuani in Patani Local Council, and arrested 35-year- old Priscillia Amor,‘f’, and recovered from her, 26 wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp, 19 wraps of substance suspected to be Methamphetamine, eight packets of razlers, some mobile phones and other exhibits. He said investigation is ongoing to arrest and prosecute other members of her gang.
