The Plateau State police command says it has recorded cases of criminal conspiracy, theft and culpable homicide this year. Briefing journalists yesterday, Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie, said on January 26, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman of Sabon Layi in Jos reported at the Laranto Police Division that on January 24 around 4p.m. he was called on phone by one Bala Yahaya Mohammed to meet him at Zaria Road Cemetery.

Mohammed handed over to him 15 cows and 14 sheep for safe-keeping under the pretext that he was looking for his child, Adie explained, adding that Bala did not come for his cows after a long wait. “He reported the incident at Laranto Police Station. Preliminary investigation revealed that the cows and sheep belong to one Ibrahim Haruna of Agigi in Bassa LGA, which were stolen with the connivance of some herdsmen. The suspects conspired and killed Mohammed Ibrahim aged seven years who was in charge of the cattles.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Jos for discreet investigation.”The suspects have been apprehended and are assisting the police in the investigation at the State CIID Jos. One of the suspects, Bala Yahaya Mohammed, made a statement confessing, how he conspired with three others to kill Mohammed Ibrahim and made away with the fifteen cows and fourteen sheep entrusted to him by his uncle (Ibrahim Haruna).”

Adie said investigation is in progress to ensure that all the culprits connected to the incident are arrested, to face the wrath of the law and to serve as a deterrent to others. “Let me re-emphasize the advice we have been given to cattle owners that they should avoid using underage children in grazing and grazing at night time.”

He also said that on January 26, one Zainab Mohammed of Angwan Rogo, Jos went to Angwan Rogo Police Division and reported that on 23rd January at about 1.00pm one Suleiman Usman aged 18 years, Umar Aliyu aged 18 years and Usman Bala 20 years all of Angwan Rogo, Jos conspired with one Yahaya Alias Kenza now at large and lured her daughter, one Basima Bashir aged 14 years in to his room at the above named address and drugged her.

“When she became unconscious and out of her senses, she was raped by the suspects. On receipt of the report, police detectives of the division swung in to action and arrested the suspects except Kenza who is at large. The suspects had equally confessed to the allegation. The case will be transferred to State CIID for in-depth investigation and they shall be charged to court as soon as practicable,” Adie said.
