Police release six Ibadan stampede suspects from custody
Oyo State Police Command has released six suspects arrested in connection with the stampede which occurred at the children’s carnival held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
The command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, had in a statement last week said that eight suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. They included Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile Ife, the school principal, Fasasi Abdulahi, Olowola Oluwa Tosin, Genesis Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisoloja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim and Abiola Oluwatimileyin.
It was gathered that six of the suspects have been released by the police.They were released from police custody at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Iyaganku Ibadan, Monday night.
Those released included Olowola Oluwa Tosin, Genesis Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisoloja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim and Abiola Oluwatimileyin. The Guardian gathered that the principal of the school and others are yet to be released.
A source, who pleaded anonymity said: “Six out of the people arrested have been released. The principal and others have not been released. We saw them when they released them.”
