Police rescue 12 kidnapped victims in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has rescued 12 out of the 14 persons kidnapped on Monday along Rumuekpe axis of the East- West road in Emohua Council of the state after their bus was hijacked by hoodlums and the driver killed.

It was gathered that operatives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit rescued the victims while combing the bushes and criminal hideouts in the area. Six of the victims were rescued on the first day of the operation, while six others were freed on the second day.

The victims were kidnapped while travelling out of the state in a bus belonging to a popular mass transit company after sporadic gunshots forced into the captors’ hideouts.

The Command’s spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the rescue, adding that efforts were on to rescue the remaining two persons.

Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike has vowed that the state government would stop at nothing to fish out those involved in the dastardly of Mr. Ekele Fyneface Chikobi Cohen, who until his death was the leader of Ahaoda West Council Legislative Assembly and prominent social media practitioner.

Cohen was killed him on Thursday by hoodlums along Rumuiji axis of the road.

Wike, while speaking at a meeting with Community Development Committees (CDC) in Port Harcourt vowed to track down Cohen’s killers with the assistance of security operatives.
