Police seek public support to curb drug abuse, trafficking in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has confiscated 13,078 illicit drugs of various types, arrested 153 suspects for different offences, and recovered several stolen motorcycles and cash during a statewide operation.

This development comes as the State Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, called on members of the public to support the police in the fight against drug abuse, trafficking, and related crimes across the state.

In a sustained effort to rid Jigawa of crime and criminality, operatives of the Command carried out coordinated raids on criminal hideouts, black spots, and drug joints across the 42 divisions in the state.

During the operations, 153 suspects were arrested for offences including drug peddling, possession of illicit substances, and other related crimes.

Items recovered from the suspects include 3,139 sachets of Exol tablets, 2,977 D5 tablets, 1,774 Tramadol capsules, three blocks and 943 wraps of cannabis, 98 Diazepam tablets, 176 bottles of rubber solution, and 46 “suck and die” substances.

Other recovered exhibits include 500 bottles of cough syrup, five Pregabalin capsules, 37 Pentazocine injections, 22 Vegakris drugs, three packs of snuff, cash amounting to ₦228,570, and a stolen Boxer motorcycle.

According to the police, all suspects have been charged to court following discreet investigations.

CP Dahiru Muhammad commended the operatives for their dedication and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eradicating crime and drug abuse in Jigawa State.

He also appealed to residents to continue providing the police with credible and timely information to aid security efforts across the state.

“The Command assures the good people of Jigawa State of its determination to provide a safe and secure environment for all. Criminal elements are advised to repent or face the full wrath of the law,” the commissioner said.
