The police have vowed to arrest the killers of the Director General for the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign in Ahoada West Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State, Chisom Lenard.

Lenard, who was also the Ward 10 leader of APC in the area, was shot while trying to prevent suspected hoodlums, dressed in Police camouflage, from hijacking election materials early Saturday morning.

Spokesman of the Rivers APC 2023 Campaign Council, Sogbeye Eli said the miscreants opened fire on him and shot him dead immediately.

“Yes, it is true, our Campaign Coordinator for Ahoada-West Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chisom was shot dead as he tried to stop the miscreants, dressed in police uniform, who tried to snatch election materials. They opened fire on him and killed him,” Eli said.

“The slain Chisom Lennard of Ubeta community in Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State was until his death today at the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, the Ward 10 Leader of the APC and Tonye Cole Campaign Coordinator for Ahoada West Local Council.”

Rivers State police spokesman, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the Commissioner of Police has ordered a speedy investigation to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the act.

“The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Election duties in Rivers State Command, CP Echeng Echeng, has tasked operatives of the Command to deploy all necessary human and investigative assets to ensure that the killers of the Campaign Director-General for the All Progressives Congress in Ahoada West in Rivers State, Hon. Lenard was allegedly killed by unknown gunmen who made away after the dastardly act during the governorship and state house of assembly elections in his LGA on Saturday afternoon.

“From information gathered, the Campaign DG was shot by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in the afternoon of Saturday, 18th March 2023,” Iringe-Koko said.
