The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, Alhaji Suleiman Kukpanti, has blamed desperate politicians for fuelling the recent internal crisis within the party.

Kukpanti alleged that the controversy surrounding Dr Joshua Audu Gana, the National Assembly member representing Lavun, Edati, and Mokwa federal constituency, was orchestrated by self-serving political actors attempting to create confusion for personal gain.

In a statement issued in Minna on Sunday, the PDP chieftain expressed dismay at some respected members of the party who, he claimed, were sowing discord as a prelude to defecting from the party.

“No one is stopping anyone from leaving the PDP for another political platform, but people should act with maturity rather than resort to verbal attacks on a respected lawmaker like Dr Joshua Gana,” Kukpanti said.

He emphasised that Gana had remained committed to the welfare of his constituents and should not be maligned.

“I have been a PDP member for over 20 years and will not join another party. PDP has laid a better foundation for governance than those in power today,” Kukpanti said.

He criticised what he called the “ingratitude and greed” of politicians frequently switching parties for personal benefit, calling it a major challenge to Nigeria’s democratic growth.

Reacting to reports surrounding Gana’s recent visit to Mokwa, Kukpanti condemned a broadcast by Tswangi TV, describing its reporting as “a misrepresentation of facts” and “inimical to journalism ethics.”

He warned the outlet to adhere to the principles of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), cautioning against what he called “quackery.”

Highlighting Gana’s contributions, Kukpanti praised the lawmaker for delivering essential infrastructure projects across several communities, including Kudu, Ibba, Gbajibo, Kukpanti, Ezhi, Kpautagi, Takuma and Muwo.

“These communities have benefited from motorised boreholes and electrification projects,” he said.

Kukpanti also noted the improvement of local schools through the provision of learning materials, furniture, and ongoing renovations. He added that Gana had recently empowered over 100 women and youths with sewing machines and vocational training to promote self-reliance and economic stability.
