Pope names Nigerian Apostolic Nuncio to Czech Republic

Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo as Apostolic Nuncio to Czech Republic. The appointment took effect on Sunday, May 1, 2022.

The Nigerian, who is from Ozubulu in Nnewi Diocese, Anambra State, replaces Charles Daniel Balvo, who had served in that capacity for four years.

Okolo, born on December 18, 1956, and prelate of the Catholic Church, has worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See since 1990.

He was ordained priest by Francis Cardinal Arinze on July 2, 1983, and consecrated bishop by the same Cardinal on September 27, 2008.

Archbishop Okolo has held various positions in the church, including Apostolic Nuncio to the Dominican Republic, Apostolic Delegate to Puerto Rico and Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland.
