Pregnant woman, five others, die in Ogun accident


No fewer than six persons, including a pregnant woman, have died while two others were injured in an accident along Ajebo Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

The accident, which occurred on Tuesday night, involved a granite-laden Volvo truck and a Nissan bluebird car.

The spokesman of the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident in Abeokuta yesterday disclosed that the Volvo truck with Registration No. KJA 731 XP collided with the Nissan bluebird marked, FD 638 EKY.


Akinbiyi explained that the casualties were all the passengers in the Nissan bluebird, including the driver.

He attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving by the truck driver, who lost control and collided with the oncoming Nissan bluebird.

Akinbiyi said: “The Volvo truck was coming into Abeokuta while the Nissan bluebird was travelling outside the capital city to Mile 6.

He said the injured were receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta while bodies of the six victims had been deposited at the mortuary of the State General Hospital, Ijaiye. also in Abeokuta.
