President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Ray Ekpu’s consistency and forthrightness in speaking and writing the truth to authorities deserves special commendation.

Sending warm greetings to the co-founder of Newswatch magazine, who turns 70 years today and 45 years as a journalist and an administrator, Buhari joined the media world, family and friends of the renowned columnist and activist in celebrating the many years of exceptional contribution to national development through his writings, speaking engagements and leadership roles.

The president in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, yesterday noted the many times Ekpu put his life on the line in fighting for the institutionalisation of good governance in Nigeria.

He affirmed that the veteran journalist’s wealth of knowledge, wisdom and editorial prowess should serve as a benchmark for up-and-coming journalists, as the future of the industry rests on the indelible tenets of fairness, accuracy and balance.
