The Presidential Advisory Committee on Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACECA) has begun a three-day advocacy in Kaduna to check the menace.

The panel’s chair, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), said the body was to proffer sustainable solution to the disturbing trend among Nigerians.

He expressed confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari would implement the report of his committee, adding that the nation’s first citizen was committed to ending the scourge nationwide.

His words: “Over 15 million people use drugs while three million abuse substances which is quite on the high side and unacceptable.

“I am aware that we have more than one million unregistered patent stores in Nigeria where these drugs get to the public.

“I am sure we will get to the root of drug abuse and put a stop to it.

“So, we are confident that our report would be implemented by Mr. President because of the interest he has in the matter and that is why we are meeting with agencies of government and partners.”
