Primero intensifies effort to change the paradigm in transportation
In a renewed effort to change the paradigm of transportation in the country, Primero Transport Limited, operators of the blue BRT buses, has introduced innovative services for commuters in the Lagos metropolis.
Speaking while conducting the leadership of Trade Union Congress round the company’s facilities at Majidun, Ikorodu, the Managing Director of the firm, Mr. Fola Tinubu, said that to enhance the riding experience of commuters in Lagos, free Wi-Fi and Television sets have been installed in all their buses and they hope to start live television streaming in the coming year.
Tinubu said the fare increase is aimed at building a sustainable enterprise and meet its obligations, as operational cost of the company keeps increasing. He added that the economic realities have made the increase inevitable. He, however, pointed out that the company is poised to change the paradigm of transportation in the country and informed of plans to introduce e-ticketing in all their routes to reduce the stress encountered by passengers as well as build a multi storey car park in Ikorodu where people can park their cars and ride with their buses.
He stressed that by September of this year, the company intends to start assembling of the buses using the Leyland facility at Ibadan while intensifying efforts to complete their assembly plant in Lagos.
Giving the background of the visit, Chairman of TUC, Lagos State chapter, Francis Ogunremi, said the union had written to the governor demanding explanation on the timing and approval of fare increase for the BRT operators in the state, and in response, the government had facilitated their visit to the headquarters of the operator to see for themselves the operations of the company.
