Protests: Group warns Lagos youths against repeat of #EndSARS damages

• Adebule, Abiru urge agitators to shelve plan
• Violent protest inimical to national development, says Orelope-Adefulire
Lagos indigenous youths, under the Lagos Indigenous Youth Network (LIYN), yesterday, appealed to residents of the state, especially the youths, to have a rethink on joining the proposed planned nationwide protest to preserve the peace and unity of the state, as they are unwilling to witness a repeat of the #EndSARS destruction in the state.
The youth leaders from the five divisions of the state, who gathered at the statue of the three wise men signature of Lagos State, yesterday, to express their concerns, maintained that the protest appears to have political motivations rather than genuine concern for public interest.
One of the leaders, Mobolaji Ogunlende, who spoke on behalf of other youth leaders from the five divisions of the state, stated that intelligence suggests that the protest is politically-driven and has the tendencies to snowball into chaos. He further said that the planned protest does not align with the interest of peace-loving and hardworking Lagosians.
The group, therefore, called on all Lagosians, particularly parents, to discourage their children from participating. Similarly, the senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Dr Idiat Adebule and the senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Adetokunbo Abiru, have appealed to planners of the protest to shelve the plan.
Adebule urged the organisers to give the Federal Government more time to implement the socio-economic policies and programmes aimed at restructuring the economy for the betterment of all. Abiru, in a statement by his media aide, Enitan Olukotun, sought the understanding of all Nigerians.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, has appealed for calm and cautioned against the planned nationwide protest.
by individuals and groups, warning that it could plunge the country into chaos, impede progress, and undermine Nigeria’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) if not properly managed.
Orelope-Adefulire, who urged those calling for the protest to embrace dialogue with the Federal Government and offer sustainable solutions to the prevailing issues, said that the planned protest lacks clear leadership and organisational structure.
