The Provost of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE), Dr Blessing Ijioma, yesterday ordered the immediate closure of the college.
This followed the violent protests of students on Monday.
The provost also announced a 12-member panel to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the protest.
She told the media that the rampaging students looted some college property and destroyed several others, including cars.
The provost explained: “On Sunday night, I received intelligence report that some students were agitated and I called the President of the Students’ Union Government, who told me that he was in Gombe for a meeting of the National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANS).
“I told him that the students were agitated and asked what were their problems. He informed me that the problem was not allowing males in female hostels beyond 7pm.’’
She however said this was after the school authorities had uncovered that some female students were residing with males in their hostels.
According to her, “Some students complained of this anomalies and we decided to re-enforce the existing policy that no male or female student should be seen in each other’s hostel beyond 7 pm.’’
She added that the contending TRCN fees was not new to the college. “It is a “a national issue which involves all colleges of education and faculties of educations in varsities across Nigeria.’’
