The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Olugbenga Owoeye, made the disclosure during presentation of the hospital’s 2022 yearly report, tagged: “A day with the medical director” in Lagos.
He noted that the figure was a three per cent increase over the tally of 2021, adding that there was a 14 per cent decrease in admission due to limited bed space, nine per cent reduction in discharges and 13 per cent increase in drug cases.
Owoeye explained: “The total number of attendance increased by three per cent compared to 2021. There was a 60 per cent increase in Child and Adolescent Clinic in the course of the year. Also, there was a 14 per cent decrease in admission cases due to unavailability of bed space and nine per cent decrease in discharges. Lastly, there was a 13 per cent increase in drug cases.”
He said efforts were made to recruit resident doctors to fill existing gap caused by those that had left the system.
The CMD announced that the medical facility was hosting training on research ethics, facilitated by the National Research Ethics Council (NHREC) and the hospital’s Research Ethical Committee, as part of efforts at repositioning FNPHY as a research centre of international repute that promotes highest ethical and scientific standards.
