PTI unveils first specilised fire academy in South South
Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has unveiled a fire academy said to be the first of its kind in the South-South region.
The Principal, Dr. Henry Adimula, explained that the facility was established to proffer solutions to inferno-related challenges experienced in the oil and gas industry and public sector.
He said: “Nigeria’s economy has been bleeding financially from the negative impact of preventable and/or manageable fire incidents in the oil and gas sector and other sectors with an estimated loss of N41.54 billion in the last two years. In the face of this sad reality, PTI could no longer afford to remain silent and watch the nation continue to hopelessly suffer these humongous losses when she can easily stop this monster and block this resource drain pipe.”
Adimula described the academy as a “one-stop fire-fighting centre” that specialises in hydrocarbon and domestic fire fighting with the intention to impart knowledge through the training of competent personnel across industries to be better equipped to protect lives and properties in the event of blazes.
He said the school is open to new entrants, professionals, individuals and students willing to pursue a stable career path in firefighting.
While commissioning the academy, chairman of the occasion and Managing Director of Arco Group, Dr. Alfred Okoigun, advised oil and gas firms to continuously upgrade their fire-fighting personnel at the facility.
