No fewer than 300 households displaced by recent crises in Takum local government council of Taraba state on weekend received relief materials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA).

The beneficiaries, as noticed by The Guardian, were drawn from Chanchangi, Yamma, Kufai Amadu, Mamie Market, Rubar and Sufa communities, all affected by the crises.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the representative of the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, Mr. Malut Adam Hussain, expressed sympathy to the affected families and reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to supporting victims of disasters and conflicts across the country.

He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the relief materials and embrace peaceful coexistence to prevent a recurrence of violence.

Also speaking, the Director of Administration at TSEMA, Sani Garba Maisukwati, who represented the agency’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Echuseh Audu, described the intervention as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing humanitarian challenges.

Maisukwati commended NEMA for its sustained partnership with the Taraba State Government in providing support to vulnerable communities affected by disasters and conflicts.

According to him, the intervention aligns with Governor Agbu Kefas’ commitment to the welfare of citizens, particularly vulnerable persons affected by insecurity.

Items distributed to the beneficiaries included bags of rice and maize, cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, iodised salt, guinea brocade, wax prints and mats.

Some beneficiaries from Peva-Chanchanji, Kufai Ahmadu and Manya who beared their minds with our correspondent, commended NEMA, TSEMA and Governor Agbu Kefas for the continued humanitarian assistance.

One of the beneficiaries, Veronica Iortom, who spoke by telephone from Peva-Chanchanji, expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that it was the fourth time the affected communities had received relief supplies following attacks on their communities.

She appealed to the government to strengthen security in the area by deploying more personnel to flush out criminal elements and enable residents to return safely to their farms.
