Reps move to remodel hajj commission
Disturbed by hiccups militating against seamless pilgrimage in the country, the House of Representatives Committee on Pilgrims Affairs is to initiate a review of the law establishing the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to meet global dynamics.
Established by the Act of National Assembly in September, 2006, the commission became operational in 2007 to replace the defunct Directorate of Pilgrims’ Affairs domiciled in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Chairman of the committee, Abubakar Nalaraba, dropped the hint at the weekend in Kano during the opening of a retreat with the theme, “Building Capacity Towards Effective Oversight for Optimal Hajj Operations in Nigeria.”
He said the National Assembly was poised to remodelling the pilgrims’ body in tune with global best practices.
