Reps to probe faceless policemen on highways

Related

The House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Police Affairs to investigate improperly dressed policemen on highways with a view to taking necessary measures to curb unprofessional tendencies and report its findings within four weeks for further action.

This followed the adoption of a motion on the need for police personnel on highway patrol to be dressed in police uniform and proper number of their patrol vehicles moved by Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims.

While presenting the motion, he said, “The policemen on highways patrol appear different from one checkpoint to another as some do not wear any means of identification such as names tag, uniforms, berets, boots.

“This makes it difficult for people to identify them thereby mistaking them for armed robbers on a number of occasions.”
