Emergency responders, including operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the State Emergency Authority (LASEMA) Response Unit (LRU), the police and the State Fire and Rescue Services (LSFRS), yesterday, prevented fire explosion on Otedola Bridge along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The incident involved a truck fully loaded with diesel, which fell at about 4:06p.m, and spilled its content on the expressway.
The Guardian learnt that the 33,000 liters tanker lost control while conveying diesel outward Lagos, and fell, thereby impeding movement on the axis.
The fallen tanker also trapped a 14-seater company’s bus whose three occupants were safely evacuated by rescuers. Earlier, some residents had thronged the scene to scoop the product and to disrupt rescue operations, before police officers arrived to manage the situation.
At press time, traffic has been diverted from 7up through Alausa to link Agidingbi and Ojodu Road, while emergency responders are still at the scene.
Meanwhile, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, was yet to issue any statement on the issue, but one of the responders said the situation was under control.
The incident was the third time in a week where trucks with petroleum products are falling and discharging their products on the road.
