Residents lament deplorable state of roads in Imo communities

The residents of Ngor Okpala Local Council in Imo State have urged the state and federal governments to promptly address the deplorable roads in the area, which they have described as a “disaster zone”.

They noted that the absence of passable roads has led to significant hardships for the communities, affecting their economic and educational prospects. Dr Ibe Nwoko, leader of the socio-cultural organisation Ngor Okpala Renaissance League, painted a grim picture of the situation.

He recalled having to wade through water during a recent visit to the local council headquarters, highlighting the lack of access even to key administrative areas.

“As I speak to you, there are no access roads in the entire Ngor Okpala even to link other parts of the council, let alone the entire parts of the state,” he lamented. “All the roads are death traps.”

Nwoko expressed disappointment that politicians’ promises during campaigns have not been fulfilled, leaving Ngor Okpala without meaningful road infrastructure despite its significant contribution to the state’s revenue.

“Ngor Okpala is the largest local council in Imo State. It attracts millions of naira monthly from the Federal government. Unfortunately, no account is being given on its use,” Nwoko added.
