The Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party in the March 18 governorship election in Rivers State, Beatrice Itubo, said she has directed her legal team to challenge the Appeal Court judgement at the Supreme Court.
Recall that a Three-Man panel of Appeal Court Justices recently dismissed Itubo’s petition alongside the petition of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Tonye Cole for lacking in merit.
Reacting to the judgement during a forum with the leadership of the South-South Youth Initiative, Itubo said although she is pleased with the activities of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, her decision to challenge the judgement is to ensure justice is served.
She pointed out that there is no rift between her and the sitting governor of the state, saying she does worry about where the pendulum would swing to but wants to ensure she pursues the course of justice to an end. She said: “I am a person who believes in Justice. And my belief in Justice is because I want things to be done rightly.
“Yes, I do not have any personal issues or grudges with the current governor of the state. If at all anything, we are coming from the same background, which is the civil service. He is not a core politician and I am not a core politician but then, things must be done rightly.
“We have heard the judgment and we have also applied for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment and I have told the lawyers to prepare the process of our appeal so we can appeal to the Supreme Court.
“I am not saying we must go there to get Justice, because we have seen how things are going, but let it be on record that we pursued this course to the letter; right or left, justice is what we want.”
