Rivers: Mentally challenged man confesses to killing commercial sex worker
Parishioners of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church located at Ekwe Street, Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were thrown into shock when an alleged mentally challenged man ran into the church on Wednesday night, confessing to killing a commercial sex worker, a year ago.
The Guardian gathered that the church security guard on duty held him, and was interrogating him when he ran out of the church for Ekwulobia Street Mile 3 Diobu, where residents eventually apprehended him.
An eyewitness and coordinator of Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro, said the suspect told residents that he stabbed the commercial sex worker to death during a scuffle over her payment.
Wiro said he and the Chief Security Officer of the street, Kelvin Nwachukwu, reported the incident to Azikiwe Divisional Police headquarters, and located at Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, who took the suspect to the station.
It was, however, gathered that the police released the man, on account of his mental state.
