Rivers NUJ hails appointment of colleagues as SA, GM

The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has applauded the appointment of THE Guardian’s South-South Bureau Chief, Kelvin Ebiri as Special Assistant to Governor Nyesom Wike on Media and Ernest Chinwo as General Manager, Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Tide.

In a statement issued by its Chairman and Secretary, Stanley Job Stanley and Ike Wigodo, the NUJ said the appointment of its members was a welcomed development.

It described the appointment of the duo as putting a square peg in a square hole, given Ebiri and Chinwo’s track records in journalism and their commitment to duty.

They said the two appointees were experienced journalists and members of the Rivers State Council of NUJ.
Chinwo, until his appointment, was the South-South Bureau Chief of Thisday Newspapers and Chairman, Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ in Rivers State, while Ebiri was South-South Bureau Chief of The Guardian Newspapers and a thorough professional.

“The two men, without doubt, are well equipped to handle their new assignments professionally, the statement added.
The council commended Governor Wike for the gesture and urged him to inject more professionals into his administration.

While congratulating Chinwo and Ebiri on their appointments, the NUJ charged them to deploy their wealth of experience in journalism to their new assignments with candour and humility.
