The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man, Richard Emmanuel, over the alleged killing of his female lover, Caroline Sunday, following a domestic dispute in Eneka, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The suspect, believed to be in his early 30s, is currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) after his transfer to the command’s central investigative unit on Monday, July 13, 2026.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday along Abraham Street in Eneka, where Emmanuel was alleged to have confronted the deceased over suspicions of infidelity.

According to sources familiar with the incident, Caroline denied the allegation during the confrontation. The disagreement reportedly escalated, during which the suspect allegedly assaulted her, causing her to fall and strike her head against a sharp edge of a wall.
The impact is said to have left the woman with severe head injuries.

Residents of the area reportedly responded after hearing cries for help from the victim. On reaching the scene, neighbours allegedly found Caroline lying in a pool of blood. Efforts to revive her before emergency responders arrived were said to have been unsuccessful.

A source disclosed that officers from the Eneka Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, responded promptly to a distress call.

The officers reportedly met a tense situation on arrival, with residents and passers-by said to have restrained the suspect while the injured woman lay nearby.

The victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital by the police, where she was confirmed dead by medical personnel. Her remains have since been deposited in a mortuary pending an autopsy.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Blessing Agabe said the suspect is in police custody and that investigations are ongoing.

“I can confirm that the suspect is in police custody. Investigation has commenced with a view to ensuring justice in the matter,” she said.

The police have urged members of the public to allow investigators to carry out a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
