In a move to uphold ethical practices, the Rivers State Police Command has arrested three officers for engaging in corrupt activities.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Inspectors Sarah Anendei, Caroline Promise, and Christiana Jatau were caught red-handed extorting money from innocent motorists under the Rumuokoro Flyover on October 29, 2024.

She explained that the operation, conducted by the Commissioner of Police team’s monitoring unit, began around 3 p.m.

Shockingly, she said, Inspectors Promise and Jatau were out of uniform while committing the misconduct, further violating police standards.

She said a mobile phone video captured the incident, providing irrefutable evidence.

During the on-site investigation, operatives recovered the extorted money from the officers, adding that they are now detained, awaiting disciplinary measures.

She said: “Two of the officers, Inspectors Caroline Promise and Christiana Jatau, were found conducting this unprofessional behaviour while out of uniform, further contravening police standards. Their misconduct was captured on video by a mobile phone, providing clear evidence of their actions.

“During the immediate on-site investigation, the operatives searched the officers and recovered the money taken from the motorists, marking a swift response in upholding ethical practices within the Rivers State Police Command.”

The Police Command, however, reassured the public that any personnel found violating service principles would be held accountable.

The command’s stance is consistent with recent actions, such as dismissing Inspector Michael Odey and suspending ASP Doubara Edonyabo and ASP Talent Mungo for similar misconduct.
