Rotary Club of Lagos, District 9110, in conjunction with its counterparts across Lagos Island, has taken a long walk to sensitise residents to the menace of polio.

The six kilometres walk that took off from Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday took participants as far as Falomo and back to the stadium. The initiative, according to organisers, is not just an exhibition of solidarity but also a clarion call for sustained action against a once rampant global health disease.

Leading the procession was District Governor, Ifeyinwa Ejezie, with the theme, ‘District Governor of Hope’.  Ejezie stated Rotary’s role in the battle against polio since 1985.

Speaking at the event, the President of The Rotary Club of Lagos, General Abiodun Role (rtd.), said: “This mobilisation reflects Rotary’s ethos of proactive engagement. Our collective strides in battling Polio have ushered in transformative change, yet the journey continues until the virus is entirely eradicated.”

Another Rotary veteran, Dr. Monisola Adanijo, said: “Comprehensive awareness campaigns intertwined with practical measures such as the club’s regular immunisation initiatives is our winning formula.  This event encapsulates Rotary Club of Lagos District 9110’s staunch commitment to health, community, and global progress, cementing its role as a vanguard for impactful change.”

The campaign will continue on Lagos Mainland on October 28 and in Ogun State on October 29, respectively.
