Sanwo-Olu, at LASU’s 26th convocation, urges Nigerians to embrace student loan law

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has implored Nigerians to embrace the student loan law, saying that it will provide opportunities for children of the poor to realise their dream of acquiring tertiary education.

Sanwo-Olu, who stated this, yesterday, during the 40th anniversary and 26th convocation of Lagos State University (LASU), also announced a personal donation of N5 million and another N5 million on behalf of the state government, for the best graduating student, Aminat Yusuf Imoitsemeh, who had a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0.

“Attaining 40 years of excellence is a great feat, and I want to congratulate the university for remaining steadfast in its commitment to a high standard of education that has produced highly-skilled men and women over the years, many of whom are being celebrated at home and abroad. I am equally impressed by many achievements of the university,” he said.

The governor commended the university’s management, under Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, for maintaining uninterrupted academic sessions, and aggressively pursuing promotion of rigorous researches and teachings in line with global best standards.

MEANWHILE, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has pledged to continue his support to the institution. Obasa, who made the pledge at the convocation, said: “The 40th anniversary of LASU has come with a lot of testimonies.

“This record is good news and further encourages those in government to do more to put the institution in a enviable pedestal.

“As I join the graduands today and celebrate with the awardees, I particularly congratulate Yusuf, who broke the record as the best graduating student with a CGPA of 5.0, which is first in the history of the institution.”
