A boat carrying an unspecified number of people and over 200 bags of rice has capsized in Lapai Local Council of Niger state, resulting in the death of many persons on board.
The Guardian gathered that the boat, loaded from Pogi in Kogi State, was headed to Sogun in Niger State when it capsized on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at about 9:00 p.m.
It was reported that the boat capsized due to a windstorm with no survivors.A source from the area further revealed that the boat’s occupants included persons from the two states.
The Guardian learnt that an unspecified number of people lost their lives, while the bags of rice purchased by the businessmen to be transported to Niger State sank.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Hussaini Ibrahim, confirmed that the agency has not yet received detailed information about the incident.
