The scene of the accident…yesterday

It was a narrow escape from death yesterday for many Ikorodu road-users in Lagos State, when a trailer, fully loaded with metal scraps and motor spare-parts, fell on its side at Ikorodu Garage roundabout at about 7.00a.m.

The driver was attempting to navigate through the roundabout while at the same time avoiding ramming into a vehicle on its left side, when the weight of the truck caused it to skid and land on its side, spilling its contents to the road.

Thankfully, no life was lost in the accident, which occurred at the busy roundabout, which is usually congested with commercial bus operators, street traders and passersby.

An eyewitness said it was a miracle that the accident didn’t claim any life because the side of the road where the truck fell used to be very busy with passersby. I am happy this didn’t happen in the afternoon or evening when it is usually choked with roadside traders and buyers.”

It, however, caused severe traffic congestion on the ever- busy Ikorodu Road for commuters going to their places of work on Monday morning. The logjam extended towards Agric Bus-Stop.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were immediately mobilised to the scene to ease the traffic build-up.
