A member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Issa Aremu, has said that security chiefs have no right to stay a day longer in their offices if the insecurity in the country is not curbed, urging President Buhari to sack them should the security challenges continue.

According to him, the rate of kidnapping and armed banditry is growing daily, saying Labour was of the opinion that the security chiefs that could not secure the lives and properties of Nigerians must go.

Speaking in Kaduna as a guest speaker at a symposium organised by the state chapter of the NLC, Aremu explained that the security challenges confronting the country had become so unbearable, adding that the lives and property of Nigerians were no longer safe. Aremu, who spoke on the topic, ‘Workers Unity for Socio-economic and Political Advancement’ said the crisis rocking most parts of the country was a war against the poor. He enjoined Nigerian workers to unite to bring an end to the crisis rocking the country, stressing that all hands must be on deck towards resolving the crisis and ensure the unity and progress of the country.

He particularly lamented the crisis in Kaduna and advised the workers to vote for their fellow workers seeking elective positions and politicians with unquestionable characters in order to restore the country’s past glory. Aremu said Nigerian workers must unite to save themselves from the deteriorating situation in the country, adding that labour should pick issues of national interest and engage government and ensure those issues are decisively addressed for the general good of the people.

Speaking further on the security challenges, he said the number of the Police personnel in Nigeria is grossly inadequate to millions of Nigerians, pointing out that countries with less population have more police personnel than Nigeria. Aremu said most youths are left with nothing to do but end up being led into evil way of life thinking they are doing themselves any good.
