It was a tragic moment at the Polytechnic Ibadan, yesterday, as a female student of the institution, Miss Babatunde Taibat, was hit by a stray bullet.

Taibat, a student in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, was allegedly shot by security men, who stormed Sewage Hall of the institution, to arrest a student.

The victim, who was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan is still responding to treatment at the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incident, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Adewole Soladoye, said the victim was hit by a stray bullet but was immediately rushed to the school’s medical facility.

According to the PRO, the student was later transferred to the University College Hospital (UCH) for proper medical attention.

Soladoye disclosed that the Rector, Prof. Kazeem Adekunle, has ensured that necessary arrangements have been put in place for Taibat’s treatment.

The PRO, however, dismissed insinuations that a staff member of the institution was involved in the incident, stressing that the person who released the bullet was yet to be identified.

Also, the Students’ Union President, Com. Adedeji Adedamola Abdulazeez said he was at (UCH) to ensure that Taibat receives proper care but can’t give explicit information for now.
