Senate committee urges Nigerians to honour fallen soldiers with renewed patriotism

The Senate Committee on Army has called on Nigerians to honour the memory of fallen soldiers by showing renewed patriotism and collective commitment to national unity and peace.

The committee made the call while condoling with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, over the death of Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko and other gallant soldiers killed in recent attacks in Borno State.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, the committee described the fallen officers and men as heroes whose courage and dedication reflect the finest traditions of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“These brave Nigerians paid the supreme price so that our nation may live in peace,” Senator Yar’adua said. “Their sacrifice must inspire every citizen to renew faith in the country and work together to defeat the forces of division, insecurity, and despair.”

He noted that while the nation mourns, it must also draw strength from the resilience and loyalty of its soldiers who continue to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria under challenging conditions.

The committee reaffirmed its support for the Nigerian Army in its ongoing operations and pledged to intensify legislative efforts that promote better welfare, logistics, and equipment for troops on the frontlines.

“We will continue to ensure that our soldiers are adequately supported, trained, and motivated. Their welfare remains a moral and national duty that the National Assembly takes seriously,” the statement added.

Senator Yar’adua also extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers and soldiers, praying for God’s comfort and for the repose of their souls.

“May Almighty Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaus, and may their bravery remind us all that love of country demands sacrifice, service, and unity of purpose,” he said.

The committee urged citizens to see the fallen heroes not just as military personnel but as symbols of national resilience and courage whose sacrifices must strengthen Nigeria’s collective resolve to build a peaceful and prosperous nation.
