Seven die in Oyo, Ogun auto crashes

Tragedy was again recorded in Ibadan, Oyo State, when four persons lost their lives after an articulated truck owned by a dairy firm lost control and crushed a Micra car and three motorcycles.

Eyewitnesses said the incident, which happened at the Alesinloye roundabout on the ever-busy Dugbe Road, was due to a brake failure. Three people died inside the Micra car while one of the motorcyclists died on the spot.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olugbenga Fadeyi, said: “The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the morgue.”

In a related development, three persons, including the driver, died yesterday when a truck ran into their vehicle headlong along Papa-Ilaro Road, Ogun State, killing them in the process.

Two of the passengers were, however, injured in the accident involving an unmarked truck and a Corolla car with registration number JJJ 91 GD. It was learnt the driver of the speeding truck lost control following a malfunctioned brake, veered off his lane and crashed into the car coming from the opposite direction.

The Public Relations Officer of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the accident. He said the two survivors were rushed to Ilaro General Hospital while the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
